Mounting a CIFS share in a Docker container give an "Operation not supported" error

Issue

  • Attempting to mount a CIFS share to a Docker container, however the container will fail to launch with an error message of "operation not supported".

  • The following message is logged in the Docker journal:

    docker[6431]: time="2016-04-04T19:53:53.882040651-04:00" level=error msg="Handler for POST /containers/create returned error: operation not supported"

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host
  • Docker container attempting to mount a CIFS share
