Kdump does not use DNS in it's initrd in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Issue

  • Support for DNS is limited to the creation of the kdump initrd: 
  • the mount command in the init script specifies the resolved IP address. 
  • If the storage share is moved, all the kdumps will fail. 
  • The server name ought to be maintained in the init script, and a DNS lookup should resolve it at dump time.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.3 and earlier
