A Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 virtual machine hosted on VMware hypervisor begins to hang some time after a quiesing the filesystems.

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (observed in the 3.10.0-227.el6 kernel)
open-vm-tools is in use on the system instead of VMware's vmware-tools
VMware's vmsync driver is used to help quiesce
