Issue

  • Customer upgraded to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8 on server with multiple NFS mounts
  • A script that uses df to ensure all of the NFS mounts are up causes the system to crash
  • RHEL5.8 kernel crashes in __link_path_walk or with Kernel BUG at include/linux/dcache.h:340

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (NFS client)
    • kernel version less than kernel-2.6.18-308.20.1.el5
    • kernel version less than kernel-2.6.18-348.el5
  • NFS mounts (any nfs version) via automount
