Dell systems with Mellanox ConnectX-4 (mlx5) cards have inconsistent biosdevname network interface names in RHEL 7

Issue

  • biosdevname is failing to provide consistent device names for Mellanox (mlx5 based) interfaces in RHEL 7.
  • ConnectX-4 hardware with two ports will show one port given a biosdevname style name and the other port mistakenly given a Consistent Device Naming style name.
  • Typically seen on Dell hardware as biosdevname is used automatically.
