RHEV: After upgrade to 3.6, unable to start VM due to duplicate virtio-serial0 device

Issue

  • After upgrade to RHEV 3.6 Virtual Machine fails to start
  • Following errors can be spotted:
ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.auditloghandling.AuditLogDirector] (DefaultQuartzScheduler_Worker-28) [] Correlation ID: null, Call Stack: null, Custom Event ID: -1, Message: VM is down with error. Exit message: internal error process exited while connecting to monitor: qemu-kvm: -device virtio-serial-pci,id=virtio-serial0,max_ports=16,bus=pci.0,addr=0x6: Duplicate ID 'virtio-serial0' for device
Exit message: XML error: Multiple 'virtio-serial' controllers with index '0'.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.6.3 or 3.6.4.
    • Upgraded from 3.5 to 3.6 while Virtual Machines running.
