Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Sendmail appends hostname to the email address when recipient address is enclosed in double quotes.
  • When email is sent from a machine with hostname "host.example.com" to "root@example.com", headers show recipient ID as "root@example.com"@host.example.com.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • sendmail-8.13.8-2.el5
