Is Red Hat Enterprise Linux hardware certification valid for other releases of the operating system?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Issue

If a server was certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4, is the hardware certification valid for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5? What about Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 or 6?

Resolution

A Red Hat Enterprise Linux hardware certification is valid for the posted release and all subsequent minor releases of the same major version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Using the above example, if a server is certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4, then it will also be certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5, 5.6, 5.7 and so on.

A Red Hat Enterprise Linux hardware certification does not extend to other major releases or their updates. Earlier minor releases of the certified major release are also not covered. Using the above example, hardware certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 is not certified for any release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, any release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, or any release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 earlier than 5.4 (5.3, 5.2 etc); these certifications would need to be obtained by the vendor in order to be listed.
