Enabling debug logging for JBoss ON rhq-cli utility

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Operations Network (ON) 3.1.2
  • JBoss ON _command-line interface (CLI) utility -- rhq-cli

Issue

  • Turning on or enabling debug logging

Resolution

When starting or executing a CLI script using the JBoss ON rhq-cli utility, set the environment variable RHQ_CLI_DEBUG to true.

  • When executing the command:

    RHQ_CLI_DEBUG=true rhq-remoting-cli/bin/rhq-cli.sh -u rhqadmin -p rhqadmin -s localhost -t 7080

  • As an environment variable before executing rhq-cli:

    RHQ_CLI_DEBUG=true; export RHQ_CLI_DEBUG
    rhq-remoting-cli/bin/rhq-cli.sh -u rhqadmin -p rhqadmin -s localhost -t 7080

    Or:

    set RHQ_CLI_DEBUG=true
    rhq-remoting-cli\bin\rhq-cli -u rhqadmin -p rhqadmin -s localhost -t 7080

  • By editing rhq-cli-env.sh or rhq-cli-env.bat and uncommenting RHQ_CLI_DEBUG=true or set RHQ_CLI_DEBUG=true respectively.

Root Cause

In cases where the JBoss ON rhq-cli utility is not properly executing, it may be necessary to enable more detailed logging to see if there are any conditions occurring that are not printed to standard output or error.
