Red Hat Cluster suite: VM service takes a long time to live migrate

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • We have a 2 node cluster, while migrating VMs from one node to another it was found that 1 VM is taking a considerably longer time to LIVE migrate than the other VMs. The VM is in a paused state while this happens for approx 15 minutes whereas another vm takes approx 30 secs.

  • Also, the affected VM for which LIVE migration is taking too much time is serving as a RHEV-M server for another RHEV setup.

//Timestamps when RHEV-M VM migration was started:
    Jan 19 17:02:28 node1 rgmanager[5394]: Migrating vm:rhev-m01 to better node node2
    Jan 19 17:02:28 node1 rgmanager[5394]: Migrating vm:rhev-m01 to node2
    [...]

//Timestamps when RHEV-M VM migration was completed (after ~15 minutes):
    Jan 19 17:17:35 node1 rgmanager[5394]: Migration of vm:rhev-m01 to node2 completed
    [...]

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 with High Availability or Resilient Storage Add-Ons
  • Cluster with Virtual machines as HA resources
  • RHEV-M configured in a highly available VM resource.
