Issue

  • Kernel panics due to soft lockup
  • We initially faced soft lockup issue on the server and as per the Redhat recommendations we have the kernel panic mode on the server and the server is rebooting frequently without any errors in the logs.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (kernel-2.6.32-573.1.1.el6.x86_64)
  • The server is part of a Openstack "compute node", running under KVM as its hypervisor
