Why does the RHEL 6 "Boot ISO" not work on UEFI based systems?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Have bought a new system and while booting with UEFI enabled via the Red Hat Enterprise 6 Boot ISO, the system does not work
  • Have changed the BIOS settings to Legacy mode in order to use the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Boot ISO
  • Have burned the RHEL6 boot CD image (for example, rhel-server-6.7-x86_64-boot.iso) to a CD-R and booted my UEFI-enabled server off of it.
  • It does not start the Anaconda installation program; instead it drops me to a GRUB prompt.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)
  • HP server (gen9)
