ypbind cannot start with a failure of binding to NIS server in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Issue

  • Starting ypbind failed as below.
# service ypbind start
Starting NIS service:                                      [  OK  ]
Binding NIS service: ....                                  [FAILED]
Shutting down NIS service:                                 [  OK  ]
  • The NIS server had the following error in /var/log/messages.
node1 ypserv[1001]: refuse to transfer map from 10.0.0.1, no valid domain
  • Why cannot ypbind start?
