Cannot find users with SSSD using LDAP referrals and 'id_provider = ldap' to connect to Active Directory

Issue

When connecting to Active Directory with SSSD and id_provider = ldap, SSSD cannot find users.
When connecting to Active Directory with SSSD and id_provider = AD, SSSD cannot find users.
Connecting SSSD to AD using id_provider = ldap, SSSD returns "ldap_result found nothing!"
SSSD adds LDAP referrals when connecting to Active Directory and tries to follow LDAP referrals (Additional References) and fails.
