Idle CIFS connections cycles disconnect/reconnect frequently

Issue

  • When a CIFS share is idle for more than 900 seconds, a lot of disconnection and reconnections can be seen at the network layer.
  • No evidences or error are printed in /var/log/messages.
  • The CIFS session is re-established when there are some activity in the CIFS share.
  • Sometimes this reconnection can take longer to proceed.

Environment

File Servers

  • Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit
