Is rijndael-cbc@lysator.liu.se cipher FIPS 140-2 approved?

Issue

  • One of the analysis shows that rijndael-cbc@lysator.liu.se cipher is not FIPS 140-2 approved, but it most likely employs an approved aes256-CBC cipher from the underlying crypto engine as provided by OpenSSL. Is it same with Red Hat packages?

  • During SFTP it is observed that rijndael-cbc@lysator.liu.se cipher is one of the ciphers getting negotiated. Hence wanted to confirm whether the cipher is FIPS approved
