How to use a certificate from a third party Certificate Authority (CA) with Apache on IdM server

Issue

The http server certificate has been replaced with a new cert that is signed by a 3rd party CA. Now I'm getting the following error when I try to enroll new clients into the IdM domain:

Joining realm failed: libcurl failed to execute the HTTP POST transaction.  Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
Identity Management (IdM) with an internal self-signed Root CA
