Is samba 3.0.x supported to join a Windows 2008 AD on Red Hat Enterprise 5?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

We have a plan to migrate our AD domain to windows 2008. We have many system with samba 3.0.x on RHEL 5 that have joined as member servers to the previous AD based on Windows 2000 in native mode (we use kerberos, in smb.conf we have security=AD and we also use winbind and nss_winbind).

Is it mandatory to upgrade to samba3x or can we stay with samba 3.0.x for the migration to Windows 2008 to be successful?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Windows 2008 R2 Active Directory
  • samba 3.0.x as a domain member server
