Why yum announcing "Requires: kernel(dev_printk)" error while loading nic driver ?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5

Issue

  • Observing following error :
yum install kmod-netxtreme2-1.rhel6u6.x86_64.rpm
(yum processing......)
Error: Package: kmod-netxtreme2-1.rhel6u6.x86_64 (/kmod-netxtreme2-1.rhel6u6.x86_64)
    Requires: kernel(dev_printk) = 0xabd7b07b
Error: Package: kmod-netxtreme2-1.rhel6u6.x86_64 (/kmod-netxtreme2-1.rhel6u6.x86_64)
    Requires: kernel(dev_err) = 0x8502d858   You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem

Resolution

  • Try installing kmod-netxtreme2-7.12.37.1-1.rhel6u6.x86_64.rpm package using rpm command :
# rpm -ivh kmod-netxtreme2-7.12.37.1-1.rhel6u6.x86_64.rpm
  • Above third party drivers are not supported.
  • Please contact vendor for further support on this as we don't have details about these packages.
