Graphical application fails to start with ~/.fontconfig directory.

Issue

  • Graphical applications fail to start when .fontconfig directory is under user's home directory.
  • Application works well after deleting ~/.fontconfig/ directory.
rm -rf ~/.fontconfig/
  • The directory gets created automatically and problem re-appears after few days.

Environment

  • Red Hat enterprise Linux 5
  • nfs shared home directory
