Why are the SCTP sockets in CLOSE state even after the terminating the application in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2 and earlier?

  • Why the SCTP association hangs in state CLOSE and is still active even after controlling application is shut-down ?
[root@server ~]# netstat -apn|grep 2906
sctp       0      0 10.xx.xx.26:2906       192.yy.yy.19:2905     CLOSE      
sctp       0      0 10.xx.xx.26:2906       192.yy.yy.20:2905     CLOSE

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2 or earlier
  • SCTP (Streaming Control Transmission Protocol)
  • Kernel memory pressure
