Issue

Periodic LDAP connection issues in combination with nscd
When user is unable to login, nscd reports the below error message in /var/log/message:

May 27 13:05:46 localhost nscd: nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server - Server is unavailable

Intermittent login failures while using nscd along with nss_ldap
Intermittent inability for nscd service to communicate/bind to ldap server

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4
Authenticating against Windows Active Directory 2003 R2 using nss_ldap and pam_krb5
