LVM fails to activate and mount when using FCoE PV's

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Logical Volume Management (LVM) fails to activate and mount when using Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) physical volumes (PVs). The boot process drops into maintenance mode.
  • The server will hang on boot up / startup waiting for a volume group (VG) to activate whose logical volume (LV) is listed in /etc/fstab. If the troubled LV is commented out, the server boots up just fine. One is then able to mount the LV with no issues.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • FCoE
  • HP Gen 9 blade
