RHEL6.6: NFS client hangs and intermittent rpcgssd timeouts, with OPENs completing with NFS4ERR_STALE_CLIENTID

Issue

  • RHEL6 NFS clients intermittently lose access to their NFS mounts (using krb5)
  • Restarting the rpcgssd service resolves the issue

Environment

  • NFS client: RHEL 6.6
    • 2.6.32-504.12.2.el6.x86_64
    • nfs-utils-1.2.3-54.el6.x86_64
  • NFS server: Non-RHEL (seen with an EMC Isilon clustered NAS)
  • NFS4 with kerberos (sec=krb5) mounts
