Why the 'mii_status' value is shown as 'down' under /sys filesystem with mode 4 bonding configuration ?

Issue

  • Different MII status reported for bondx via /proc/net/bonding/bondx and /sys/class/net/bond0/bonding/mii_status filesystem.
  • Bond devices are working fine, however this different values breaks the HP monitoring tools as they are checking the status via sys fs.
# cat /sys/class/net/bond0/bonding/mii_status
down  <<--

# cat /proc/net/bonding/bond0
Ethernet Channel Bonding Driver: v3.6.0 (September 26, 2009)
Bonding Mode: IEEE 802.3ad Dynamic link aggregation  <<-- mode 4

MII Status: up  <<---
