Attempting to extend filesystem in RHEL 7 returns "Bad magic number in super-block"

Issue

  • After successfully extending the logical volume, the resize2fs command gives below error when attempting to extend the filesystem:
resize2fs: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/voluguu/root

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • XFS filesystem
