JBoss ON server unable to recover after back-end database ungraceful shutdown

Issue

  • User-interface (UI) is not responding or a timeout occurs with message similar to:

    Failed to load resource type metadata. This occurred because the server is taking a long time to complete this request.

  • Server log reports warning every 30 seconds:

    WARN  [org.jboss.as.ejb3] (EJB default - 5) JBAS014143: A previous execution of timer [rhq.rhq-server.ServerManagerBean aaaaaaaa-aaaa-aaaa-aaaa-aaaaaaaaaaaa] is still in progress, skipping this overlapping scheduled execution at: Mon Oct 19 05:05:44 EDT 2015

  • Red Hat JBoss Operations Network (ON) 3.2, 3.3
  • JBoss ON back-end database experienced an outage or ungraceful shutdown
