How to install new kernel if the space in /boot is insufficient?

Issue

  • Running out of /boot space during patching.
  • Is there a way to tell yum/Sat server to use a different directory for all it's temporary work and only copy the files into /boot when it is done?
  • Kernel installation fails with corrupt initramfs.
  • Yum update needs additional space in /boot
