Performance issues after some uptime under constant workload
Issue
Under heavy (constant) workload, it is observed that the performance of the machine decreases. Usually some critical threshold can be found where the performance decrease is noticeable.
Environment
Requirements:

RHEL5 or older

large memory system (depends on workload and hardware specifications, usually unlikely bellow some 50G of installed memory, on modern hardware); note that one can reproduce this on a system with just 2G of memory, but only under massive and obvious memory pressure.

constant, memory intensive, workload (like heavily used oracle) and uptime (it can take even days to get to this condition)
