Unable to unzip BPM Suite 6.x packages in Windows OS

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss BPM Suite (BPMS) 6.x
  • Red Hat JBoss BPM Suite Roll Up Patches 6.x
  • Windows 7, 10 OS

Issue

  • While extracting 6.3.x Updates, some of the classes are not getting extracted due to length;
  • By trying to unzip a BPM Suite 6.x package (i.e. Roll Up Patch or BPM 6.1.0.ga.deployable-eap6.x.zip files) on Windows 7, some errors are thrown such as:
The target name length (<LENGTH>) is more than 259 characters! <PATH> Most programs will not be able to access a file/directory with such a long name!

or

"Skipping file: Unable to create a sensible filename out of..."

Resolution

A workaround would be to try different zip tooling (WinRAR, 7-Zip);

Root Cause

It seems to be a Windows limitation. Please check if your OS is up to date.
