Why secondary serial port is not activated on after upgrading to RHEL 6.3 ?
Issue
- The secondary serial port (ttyS2) on a ATCA Molene board does not work anymore after updating to
kernel-2.6.32-279.el6. - This serial port is used as a Serial over LAN (SoL) device to get serial console through the network provides following logs showing the ttyS2 is not creating or skipping during the kernel boot up process.
serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
serial8250: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
00:06: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
serial 0000:03:00.3: PCI INT C -> GSI 42 (level, low) -> IRQ 42
serial8250: skipping TxEn test for device [8086:1062] subsystem [8086:0000]
ttyS2 should be detected here as well, but is not with the new kernel.
