RHEL: Why does "ifconfig" show framing errors but "ethtool -S" shows no errors?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • We are experiencing TCP RX errors and frame errors in the output of ifconfig -a. The counters continue to increment. The specific interface is a bond which consists of physical interfaces. They are 10G fiber. The DBA is noticing latency on the NFS volumes that are coming in via this 10G interface. Network team had a packet sniffer on here and they are seeing a lot of Re-ACK's which seems to suggest the server is not communicating well with the NetApp filer.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
    • kernel-2.6.32-431.5.1.el6
  • Bnx2x driver
  • NetApp filer
