When joining RHEL5 system to Windows server 2008 domain gives error "Cound not connect to Server . The username and password was not correct

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When joining RHEL5 system to Windows 2008 domain gives error "Cound  not connect to Server xxxxx.xxxx The username and password was not  correct"

  • Below error is reported with "net ads join"

    net ads join -U administrator
Could not connect to server ADSERVER1.EXAMPLE.COM
username or password is incorrect.
dns update failed.
Joined client01 to realm EXAMPLE.COM

Even with above errors client01 is joined to Windows AD domain. And AD users are able to login to "client01" with their Windows AD credentials.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2
