Writes to my RHEL 5 GFS2 filesystem are faster than to my RHEL 6 GFS2 filesystem

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

When testing writes to a GFS2 filesystem in a RHEL 5 Resilient Storage cluster vs a RHEL 6 Resilient Storage cluster using a dd command as shown below, writes to the RHEL 5 filesystem are substantially faster than to the RHEL 6 filesystem:

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/gfs2/testfile bs=8k count=3000 oflag=dsync

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 w/ Resilient Storage Cluster
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 w/ Resilient Storage Cluster
  • GFS2 Filesystem
