  • 'service ntpd status' returns "ntpd dead but subsys locked"
  • 'service ntpd stop' fails
  • ntpd can be started successfully and is working without any issue.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5)

  • ntpd running chroot with a custom config
