Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • The JBoss Operations Network (JON) agent JVM is consuming a lot of memory, beyond  the JVM limits.
  • top output with a max heap of 1024m shows huge virtual image and resident sizes:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

  • JBOSS Agent on RHEL server is consuming more than 10G-15G of memory and it is increasing. We have already configured Xms and Xmx parameters without any affect.

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
    2522 root 19 0 12.7g 12g 11m S 0.0 34.7 227:49.10 /usr/bin/java -Djava.endorsed.dirs=/opt/rhq-agent/lib/endorsed -Djava.library.path=/opt/rhq-agent/lib -Xms64m -Xmx128m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dlog4j.co

Environment

  • 64-bit JDK 1.6 update 13
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.4 xen kernel: Linux 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5xen
