System will not boot past single user mode
Issue

System will not boot past
singleuser mode -
Attempting to boot results in the following:
Telling INIT to go to single user mode.
INIT: Going single user
INIT: Sending processes the TERM signal
INIT: Sending processes the KILL signal
Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D to continue):

System receives
TERMandKILLsignals and hangs onShutting down loopback interface... -
/var/log/messagesshows messages like the following and everything exits:
