Can I configure sticky sessions in JBoss and mod_jk in a non-clustered loadbalanced setup?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • There exists a requirement for a high availability site but clustering is not essential.  Regardless of the situation sticky sessions are always recommended to be used, but is this viable in a non-clustered setup?

Environment

  • JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP)
    • 4.2
    • 4.3
    • 5
  • mod_proxy / mod_jk / mod_cluster
  • JBoss/EAP started in a non-clustered server configuration (minimal or default)
  • jvmRoute is set on each server.xml Engine element in JBoss Web

  • UseJK is set to true in each jboss-service.xml in JBoss Web
