lvcreate creating lv with wrong name when the lvname has "-" in it.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When the lvname has a "-" characted in it.. the lvcreate command adds addtional character "-"
# lvcreate rootvg --size=100MB --name=lvopt-data
  Rounding up size to full physical extent 128.00 MiB
  Logical volume "lvopt-data" created

# ls -l /dev/mapper|grep data
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root      8 Sep 10 13:51 rootvg-lvopt--data -> ../dm-15

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.6
  • Logical Volume Manager (LVM) 2
