"Format F: Operation Terminated" messages on console in a zlinux guest on z/VM LPARS.

Issue

  • The “Short Long Busy” is utilized in EMC SRDFA/MSC to provide a consistent point in time. It can also be issued by IBM for XRC and CFW. OS is reporting a “Short Long Busy” as Format F: Operation Terminated when the operation is in the process of retry and has not been terminated. If the operation was truly terminated the write would have failed, and the application would have been notified.Following messages were repeatedly reflected in the guest spooled consoles.
