NFS client hangs or stalls or bad performance due to hung or stalled NFS / RPC tasks using priority wait queues, especially NFSv4.1
Issue
- After network partition or event, we see stalled NFS tasks
- NFS tasks which use RPC priority wait queues lead to poor performance
- Failed RPC wakeups of RPC priority queued NFS rpc_tasks
- NFS Client hang or pause occurs
- NFS 4.1 hangs on failover of network or fail-over of NFS server
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- NFS Client
- NFSv4.1 is especially vulnerable due to its extensive usage of priority wait queues
- Seen with NFS4.1 file layout data server and failover testing
