NFSv4 client cannot read files from FIPS enabled NFSv4 export

Issue

  • When attempting to read or write to files that belong to an NFSv4 share exported via a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 machine in FIPS-compliant mode the file cannot be accessed and reports the following error messages: 
Jul 25 17:37:10 localhost kernel: Error: state recovery failed on NFSv4 server 192.168.122.133 with error 10018
Jul 25 17:37:10 localhost kernel: Error: state recovery failed on NFSv4 server 192.168.122.133 with error 2

Environment

  • NFS Server: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2-6.5 exporting NFSv4 share with FIPS mode enabled
  • NFS Client: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8
