Issue

  • CIFS or SMB mount fails with following error message log.
# mount -t cifs //xx.xx.xx.xx/share-name /mnt -o username=administrator
mount: block device //xx.xx.xx.xx/share-name is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: cannot mount block device //xx.xx.xx.xx/share-name read-only
  • Relevant error in message log.
 CIFS VFS: No username specified
 CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -22
