applications linked to libpcrecpp.so.0.0.0 crash with undefined symbol error

Issue

  • Applications compiled on RHEL 5 and linked to libpcrecpp.so.0.0.0 are failing to run on RHEL 6.

  • They crash immediately when starting with an undefined symbol error:

    [user@localhost ~]$ ./pcretest
./pcretest: symbol lookup error: ./pcretest: undefined symbol: _ZN7pcrecpp2RE4InitEPKcPKNS_10RE_OptionsE

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.0 - 6.3
  • pcre-7.8-4 or less
