Cannot mount Microsoft Windows DFS shares, mountable via back-end only

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Mounting a Microsoft Windows DFS share only works when mounting the back-end share.
  • The following error is encountered when attempting to mount the share:
 # mount -t cifs //server.example.com/dfs-share /mnt -v -o user=domain/foobar,password=PASSWD

mount.cifs kernel mount options: ip=10.64.12.100,unc=\\server.example.com/dfs-share,,ver=1,user=foobar,domain=domain,pass=********
Retrying with upper case share name
mount.cifs kernel mount options: ip=10.64.12.100,unc=\\SERVER.EXAMPLE.COM/DFS-SHARE,,ver=1,user=foobar,domain=domain,pass=********
mount error(6): No such device or address
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

Environment
