Failed to detect boot server on Red Hat Satellite 6

Issue

  • Cannot deploy new hosts after running installer
  • After upgrading Satellite deploying a new host fails with this error in /var/log/foreman/production.log
failed to detect boot server: ERF50-9294 [Foreman::WrappedException]: Unable to find IP address for 'capsule-server.satellite.example.com' ([SocketError]: getaddrinfo: Name or service not known)
  • After editing a host, the Satellite 6.x server attempts to write a dhcp config to the capsule server but fails with the following error in production.log

failed to detect boot server: ERF50-9294 [Foreman::WrappedException]: Unable to find IP address for 'capsule-server.satellite.example.com' ([Resolv::ResolvError]: DNS result has no information for capsule-server.satellite.example.com')
