Ceph - [RFE] Why I can't specify a non-default min size and size parameter when I create a new pool?
Environment
- Red Hat Ceph 1.2.3
*Red Hat Ceph 1.3
*Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
*Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
Issue
When creating a new pool you are not allowed to specify a non-default min_size and size parameter.
Red Hat Ceph Documentation is as follows:
To Create Pool:
ceph osd pool create {pool-name} {pg-num} [{pgp-num}] [replicated] \[crush-ruleset-name]
The pool create does not allow to modify pool size. To change the replication number and min_size parameters you have to do:
ceph osd pool set pool-name size #
ceph osd pool set pool-name Min_size #
It seems logical that the pool create command would be able to allow all pool parameters to be modified at the time of pool creation to save time.
Resolution
A RFE Bugzilla has been open for this enhancement request and is being worked by engineering. This article will be updated once an enhancement is released.
Root Cause
The pool create command does not allow all pool parameters to be modified forcing the user to enter additional commands to modify the pool after creation.
