Issue

  • I get an I/O error in a rhel/vmware/SAN environment, how to analyze this?
  • I have a VM on a esxi host. It logged a write I/O failure which caused the oracle DB to go down. The ESX host just logged a path failure to the datastore, but not a complete access loss. Logs have this:
sd 3:0:4:0: [sdf] Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
sd 3:0:4:0: [sdf] CDB: Write(10): 2a 00 00 59 d1 da 00 00 04 00
end_request: I/O error, dev sdf, sector 5886426

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 (guest OS)
  • VMware
  • virtualization
  • Storage Attached Network (SAN)
