automount: open_lookup:90: cannot open lookup module dir (/usr/lib64/autofs/lookup_dir.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • With autofs in RHEL 7 you can use the auto.master.d directory to split out the master map, with the following line added to /etc/auto.master:

    +dir:/etc/auto.master.d

  • On RHEL 6, we would like to do the same, but when reloading autofs and trying to access the shares listed in a file in auto.master.d, this appears in the messages file:

automount[23966]: open_lookup:90: cannot open lookup module dir (/usr/lib64/autofs/lookup_dir.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

  • yum provides "*/lookup_dir.so" returns nothing

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7
  • autofs-5.0.5-113 or earlier
  • Line starting +dir in /etc/auto.master
