Printing a file in RHEL causes foomatic-rip crash on signal 6

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • We're having an issue where all jobs generated from the application fail (they'll stay on the queue). If I grab one of those jobs from /var/spool/cups and manually print it with the lp command (as root) the job finishes without problem.
  • Jobs are failing with the following messages in /var/log/cups/error_log:

    E [24/Feb/2015:09:05:34 +0100] PID 13921 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip) crashed on signal 6!
E [24/Feb/2015:09:05:34 +0100] [Job 23] Job stopped due to filter errors; please consult the error_log file for details.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
